Personalising your loved one’s funeral – a final farewell they would have loved
Arranging the final send off and getting balance between your loved one’s wishes and your own needs, is by no means an easy task. By being able to recollect with other mourners what was really special about the loved one, making their farewell uniquely personal can provide comfort, and in many instances, joy during the service
Our facilities and technology at Gedling Crematorium are state-of-the-art and unique to the whole of the UK. We are able to provide various themes to personalise loved one’s funeral, in our chapel as well the waiting room.
Canvas (in the chapel)
Canvas, is a service which allows visual tributes to be projected onto the entirety of the front wall in the chapel, creating a visually led funeral experience.
Where other UK venues can only provide visual tributes and photos of a loved one on chapel screens, our canvas wall serves as the entire visual tribute backdrop for a service.
There are 10 dynamic canvas backgrounds within four categories available:
1. Commemorative
- Floral
2. Natural World
- Lavender field
- Country hills
- Autumn
- Winter
- Waterfall
3. Aesthetic
- Watercolour
- Gentle Glimmer
4. Identity
- Football stadium
- Little star

Major religious symbols can be added to the above backgrounds, if desired.
Our canvas backgrounds include complimentary soundscapes, sympathetically paired to complement canvas backgrounds, which can either be used independently or under the chosen music tracks.
Our adjustable lighting helps enhance chapel atmosphere further by being dimmed and/or its colour being personalised to the selected service theme (e.g. red for Nottingham Forest fans).
For those watching the service online through live streaming, our tribute switching functionality allows them to see canvas visuals or videos on full screen of their device.
Gallery (in the waiting room)
Our waiting room includes 25 digital image picture frames together with a nameplate which can be utilised for creating a tribute gallery prior to the service. While families wait for the service to begin, they can view key moments in the life of the deceased, available in our waiting room.
Music Tributes or Themed Tributes will also appear on the Gallery wall, free of charge.
Other ways of personalising a service
There are many other ways in which we can make your loved one’s service uniquely personal, which include:
- Dressing our chapel to complement a theme
- Bringing family pet along
- Releasing doves
- Accommodating unusual vehicles instead of a traditional hearse
We are here to help discuss your needs and assist with transforming the chapel to a uniquely personal space for your loved one’s final farewell.
Got preference for a traditional service?
Whilst many people are looking for more personal ways of remembering their loved one, we understand that this is not for everyone. It is our desire to create final farewell that suits your unique needs and if a traditional service is your preference, you will be in safe hands with us.
Our chapel can host religious and non-religious traditional services and all above mentioned features can be switched off to facilitate a simpler, traditional service.
If required, in addition to modern music our media system includes a wide range of traditional hymns which can be played throughout the service and/or when the curtains close, as a moment of reflection.
